Curated by Canadian historian Karen Dosanjh, author of Untold Stories: The South Asian Pioneer Experience in BC, the calendar comprises rare snapshots, retracing the journey of the Punjabi diaspora. The vice-president of global tech company, Dosanjh calls the project her sewa (service). These stories are now part of the BC school curriculum as they are important to Sikh students’ self-identity and their sense of belonging.

She was the first person of South Asian descent to serve on the Board of the Canadian Public Relations Society-Vancouver (CPRS) from 1995-1998. She is also a historian who volunteered her time to write a book which documents the journeys of the first South Asians in Canada. Richmond-Born Author Writes Previously Untold Stories of South Asian Immigrants. Writing more than 70,000 words over 250 pages wasn’t nearly as difficult as the journey early South Asian pioneers went through to start a new life in Canada, according to Richmond author Karen Dosanjh.

White Rock Author’s Book Tells Stories of B.C.’s South Asian Pioneers. Dosanjh says, “These stories belong to the community.”

Sikhlens and Chapman University present a fascinating and timely virtual learning experience with Karen Dosanjh, Author & Editor of the critical, new book, Untold Stories: The South Asian Pioneer Experience in BC. In this thought-provoking and topical event, Karen chronicles the historic milestones of the first South Asians who migrated from India to Canada.

The Surrey Surrey White Rock Chamber hosts a town hall with influential panelists who shared their experiences and insights around diversity and inclusion challenges at work and in the community.

The Shakti Society held the 17th annual Shakti Awards on March 9th in honour of International Women’s Day at the Bollywood Banquet Hall in Surrey. Fourteen women were recognized and awarded in their specific fields including Karen Dosanjh who was honoured in the Professional Achievement category. Karen Dosanjh served as a judge at The Rotary Club of Surrey’s ‘The Debaters’ event which focuses on helping South Asian youth in the Surrey community find their voice, by improving their confidence and public speaking abilities.
